Accountability

More than half a year after the deadliest attack on civilians of this war, no one has been held responsible. These are the questions that remain open.

“There is no question that the US should have known that the building was a school, not a military target.”
Amanda Klasing, Amnesty International USA, 25 June 2026

Release the Pentagon's investigation in full

A preliminary inquiry reportedly found US forces at fault. The findings have not been published, and Congress says it has been stonewalled.

02

Explain the targeting failure

The school had a public website, photographs of its pupils, a business listing, and painted playground markings visible from orbit since 2018. Anyone reviewing the target should have seen a school.

03

Truth, justice and reparations for the families

Amnesty International has pressed for all three since June 2026. Families have received no acknowledgement, no apology and no compensation.

04

Keep the names in public view

No complete list of the 156 has been published anywhere. Share the names, correct them, add to them. A death that is counted but not named is easier to forget.

If you knew them

Families, teachers and neighbours hold what no investigation can supply: who these children were. Photographs, drawings, a favourite song, the name of a classroom. This memorial is built to hold them.
